tutor_Picture-025What is Supplemental Educational Services? (SES)
The goal of the SES program is to bring each child up to and beyond grade level in the areas of English Language Arts (reading, writing and comprehension) or math. During the 2008-2009 school year, 85% of the students who completed the program improved by at least one grade level in English Language Arts and math.

Supplemental Educational Services (SES) – Free tutoring services designed to help struggling students in Title 1 schools. These services offer students help in academic subjects such as language arts, and mathematics. Since 2002, Encourage Tomorrow has served five thousand students, including fifteen hundred that are currently enrolled in its tutoring and learning enrichment programs.

Once a state has identified a school as “in need of improvement” for two or more years, the school district determines which students in that school are eligible for services. Once identified, the district notifies families about their option of free tutoring. The school district must also provide information about the local tutoring provider’s “SES” providers.

Students of low-income families, generally those who receive free or reduced-price lunch, who attend Title 1 schools that have not made adequate yearly progress for at least three years, are eligible for free tutoring services. School districts are required to notify families if their children are eligible for SES in school programs tutoring services.
